Needham Fire and EMS responded to the incident just north of Exit 33 around 1:20 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 24, according to Massachusetts State Police.
The man, later identified as Justin Kelley, was pronounced dead on scene. The vehicle involved in the crash did not stay on scene, police added.
Investigation suggests the man was walking in the breakdown lane when he was struck. State Troopers found potential debris that will be used to identity the involved vehicle.
"I’m shook right now. Only the good die young seriously," a friend of Kelley's wrote on Facebook. "You were the most kindest and caring person. You’ll never be forgotten, love you kid."
The investigation is ongoing.
